Job description

The Senior Payroll Operations Consultant manages accurate, timely, and compliant multi-country payroll services while serving as the main contact for clients and internal teams. The role requires strong payroll knowledge, attention to detail, client focus, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll and Compliance

Process end-to-end payroll across multiple countries in line with local laws, tax rules, payroll calendars, and agreed turnaround times.

Validate employee data, earnings, deductions, taxes, and statutory contributions.

Reconcile Gross-to-Net results, bank files, and General Ledger outputs before payroll release.

Manage year-end processing, statutory reporting, tax filings, audits, and required payments.

Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary payroll updates.

Client and Service Management

Act as the main payroll contact and communicate clearly about progress, issues, deadlines, and escalations.

Ensure services remain within contractual scope and escalate potential gaps.

Coordinate approved service changes with Account Management, Implementation, and Client Success teams.

Track support tickets, follow up on unresolved items, and ensure resolution within agreed SLAs.

Prepare monthly SLA reports, analyze recurring failures, and recommend corrective actions.

Onboarding and Continuity

Accept clients following implementation and Hypercare, reviewing configurations, agreements, process documents, and handover checklists.

Test payroll calculations, system setup, and statutory compliance before BAU ownership.

Maintain current process documentation and knowledge-transfer plans.

Ensure at least one trained backup resource is available for each client.

Documentation and Improvement

Maintain SOPs, wage-type catalogs, data dictionaries, and client-specific payroll documentation.

Record change requests, obtain approvals, and track configuration changes.

Identify manual tasks, workflow bottlenecks, and recurring errors that can be automated or simplified.

Collaborate with IT and process-improvement teams on automation and system enhancements.

Qualifications

At least seven years of experience in global payroll, outsourced payroll services, or payroll consulting.

Strong knowledge of multi-country payroll, taxation, statutory contributions, labor regulations, and compliance.

Experience managing SLAs, support tickets, escalations, onboarding, payroll testing, and client expectations.

Strong analytical, reconciliation, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

Payroll certification such as GPC, CPP, CIPP, or IPASS is preferred.

Performance Goals

Achieve 99.7% payroll accuracy within six months through automated validation and reconciliation.

Maintain 100% on-time payroll delivery for all cycles over the next 12 months.

Reach 95% ticket SLA compliance within three months.

Maintain 100% accurate and timely statutory filings.

Achieve 90% client satisfaction through proactive communication and faster issue resolution.

Complete client documentation and train one backup resource per client within six months.

Automate at least five manual payroll tasks and reduce processing time by 20%.

Manage at least 20 clients or 1,500 monthly payslips within 12 months.
