Journeyman Electrician - Substation Controls Rigid Conduit Required Power Generation Experience Preferred

Location: Rochester, NY

Pay: $40-$55/hour depending on experience, plus prevailing wage opportunities

Employment Type: Full-Time

We are seeking an experienced Journeyman Electrician for work supporting industrial electrical and substation projects in the Rochester, NY area. This position focuses on the installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical control systems within medium-voltage substations and related industrial environments.

Rigid conduit experience is required. Experience working in power generation, natural gas power generation, or electrical substations is strongly preferred.

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair substation electrical and control systems
• Install and work with rigid conduit, including bending and threading using both hand and power equipment
• Install and maintain protective relays, SCADA systems, RTUs, control panels, meters, instrumentation, and associated wiring
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals
• Perform inspections, testing, and calibration of electrical control equipment
• Diagnose electrical and control system malfunctions
• Repair or replace defective equipment and components
• Perform project layout and underground service layout
• Maintain accurate work orders and project documentation
• Follow all OSHA, lockout/tagout, site-specific, and company safety requirements
• Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency response when required
• Assist with coordinating and directing small crews as needed
  

Required Qualifications

• Journeyman-level electrical experience
• Strong rigid conduit experience is required
• Experience with conduit bending and threading using hand and power equipment
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and electrical drawings
• Mechanical aptitude and project layout experience
• Experience with electrical building services and underground services
• Basic computer skills
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to plan work, prioritize tasks, troubleshoot problems, and work within project schedules
• Ability to safely lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds

• Electrical substation construction or maintenance
• Power generation facilities
• Natural gas power generation facilities
• Medium-voltage electrical systems
• Substation controls, protective relays, SCADA, RTUs, and control wiring
• Leading or managing a small electrical crew
