Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform TIG/GTAW welding on copper-nickel (CuNi) pipe, fittings, plate, and related components.
• Weld 90/10 and/or 70/30 copper-nickel materials used in marine piping systems.
• Produce high-quality welds capable of meeting applicable inspection and X-ray requirements.
• Perform welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, technical drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
• Properly prepare, clean, align, and fit joints before welding.
• Remove grease, oxidation, moisture, and other contaminants that could cause weld defects, cracking, or porosity.
• Utilize appropriate gas purging techniques when welding CuNi piping.
• Maintain proper shielding gas coverage throughout the welding process.
• Control heat input, travel speed, torch angle, filler addition, and weld puddle to accommodate the thermal characteristics of copper-nickel.
• Maintain proper pipe and fitting alignment during fit-up and welding.
• Use appropriate dedicated brushes, grinders, and preparation tools to prevent material contamination.
• Inspect completed welds for proper penetration, profile, fusion, and overall quality.
• Prepare welds for applicable visual and non-destructive testing (NDT), including X-ray inspection when required.
• Identify and correct weld defects when necessary.
• Follow applicable welding procedures, specifications, and quality standards.
• Maintain welding equipment, leads, torches, regulators, and related tools in safe working condition.
• Follow all shipyard safety procedures and use required PPE.
• Work safely in confined spaces, tight areas, and other shipyard environments.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Key Requirements

• Copper-nickel TIG welding experience is required.
• Minimum 1-3+ years of professional TIG/GTAW welding experience strongly preferred.
• Extensive CuNi or marine pipe welding experience is highly preferred.
• Previous shipyard, marine, naval, or industrial piping experience strongly preferred.
• Experience welding 90/10 and/or 70/30 CuNi pipe preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GTAW/TIG welding procedures and parameters.
• Knowledge of shielding gases and proper gas-purging procedures.
• Strong understanding of CuNi joint preparation and contamination prevention.
• Experience using dedicated CuNi/stainless wire brushes, grinders, and preparation tools.
• Ability to properly fit, align, and prepare pipe prior to welding.
• Ability to read blueprints, isometric drawings, weld symbols, and welding specifications.
• Must understand proper heat input, travel angle, arc length, filler placement, and puddle control.
• Must be capable of producing clean, consistent welds suitable for required inspection standards.
• Must be able to pass required drug screening and background check.

Shifts:

• Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM
• Some Saturdays
