Title: Java Software Engineer - Manufacturing Systems (Hybrid) Location: Corning, NY Duration: 12 Months Schedule: 3-5 days/week onsite, depending on workflow Only W2 candidates are eligible for this position. Job Description Primary Purpose Support the Solution Architect by developing, testing, and delivering manufacturing-related software applications within the organization's Java-based platform. The role will focus on translating low-level designs into production-ready applications, integrating manufacturing systems, and helping establish standards for AI-enabled software development practices across the development team. Client is looking for a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Equipment Integration to build the software that connects our manufacturing equipment with enterprise systems like MES, ERP, SCADA, and other smart factory platforms. In this role, you'll blend full stack engineering with deep equipment connectivity expertise to enable reliable, scalable, real time data flow across our production environment. What You'll Do Design, develop, test, and deploy full stack software solutions for equipment to system integration Build backend services (Java, C#, Python, Node.js) and front end interfaces (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) Implement messaging and integration frameworks (ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka, MQTT) Connect manufacturing equipment using protocols like OPC UA, SECS/GEM, TCP/IP, MQTT Integrate with MES, SCADA, and other manufacturing platforms Design and optimize databases for equipment data, events, and historical tracking Troubleshoot connectivity, data flow, and system behavior issues Support deployments, commissioning, and production startup Maintain documentation and collaborate with architects, IT, and manufacturing teams Stay current with Industry 4.0 technologies and contribute to continuous improvement What You Bring Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or related field 5+ years of software development experience (full stack or backend) Proficiency in Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript Knowledge of OPC UA, SECS/GEM, TCP/IP, or message queuing technologies Experience with databases, Git, and Agile tools (Jira, GitLab) Top 3 Required Skills Java or Ruby Development Strong software development background in Java or Ruby. Ability to function as a core application developer and quickly learn proprietary platforms. Messaging Technologies Experience with messaging platforms such as ActiveMQ. Familiarity with RabbitMQ, MQTT, or similar queue-based technologies is highly transferable. Manufacturing Systems / MES Integration Experience working with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), manufacturing environments, or industrial automation. Understanding of software integration with manufacturing equipment and transaction-based systems. Preferred Skills Experience with messaging frameworks (ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka, MQTT) Familiarity with SCADA (Ignition, znt PAC) or MES (Siemens OpCenter/Camstar) Experience integrating manufacturing equipment with industrial systems Understanding of manufacturing environments, automation, and Industry 4.0 Experience with OSI PI or analytics platforms Strong debugging, problem solving, and communication skills Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams Nice to Have: MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) expertise. Experience with Ignition and Rockwell products. Robotics, conveyor systems, or warehouse automation integrations. Database interface and transaction processing experience. ActiveMQ administration or implementation experience. AI-assisted development tools, coding agents, and AI coding standards. Experience working with software-to-hardware integrations in industrial environments. Knowledge of proprietary manufacturing platforms or product lifecycle/manufacturing systems. Interview Process Round 1 1-hour virtual interview. Conducted by the Hiring Manager and Solution Architect. Focus on technical competencies, manufacturing integration experience, and overall fit. Round 2 (If Required) Follow-up interview for deeper technical evaluation and team fit. No large panel interview is currently anticipated.
