Job Description Job Description Class B Structural Welder fits, aligns, and welds heavy steel components like beams, columns, and plates using industrial welding processes under general supervision.
Key Responsibilities

• • Fit-Up and Layout: Read blueprints, fabrication instructions, and technical drawings to measure, align, and tack-weld heavy steel pieces before final welding.
  • Welding Operations: Perform multi-pass and single-pass welds using processes like MIG (GMAW), Flux Core (FCAW), or Stick (SMAW) in various positions.
  • Material Preparation: Bevel, grind, clean, and prep metal edges, removing rust, scale, slag, or spatter using hand tools, grinders, and torches.
  • Quality and Inspection: Check dimensions with measuring tools and inspect finished joints to ensure they meet visual and structural code standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow strict shop safety guidelines, maintain a clean work area, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications and Requirements

• • Experience: Typically requires 2 to 5 years of verifiable fitting and welding experience in an industrial, maritime, or structural manufacturing environment.
  • Certifications and Tests: Ability to pass standard plate and position weld tests (such as a 3G MIG/Flux Core test or company-specific Class B certifications).
  • Technical Skills: Strong ability to interpret blueprints, use basic layout tools, and perform basic shop math.
