Structural Steel Welder

Job Description Job Description About the Role

Step into a busy AISC-certified shop where precision and pace go hand-in-hand. As our AWS FCAW Structural Welder-Fabricator, you'll begin each shift confirming piece marks, revision levels, and finish codes before laying out steel with tapes, squares, levels, and other layout tools. You'll plan weld types, sizes, and procedures from shop drawings and symbols, then execute FCAW in 1G or 3G as required-completing thermal cutting, back-gouging, and grinding to get each assembly ready for QC.

What You'll Do

• Identify piece marks, confirm drawing revisions, and verify finish codes prior to welding.
• Interpret shop acronyms, part orientation, and weld symbols to determine correct welds, sizes, and procedures.
• Layout and mark accurately using tape measures, squares, levels, and layout tools.
• Perform FCAW in 1G or 3G positions per shop drawings; complete thermal cutting, back-gouging, and grinding as needed.

Safety and Teamwork

• Keep your bay clean, organized, and safe at all times.
• Operate overhead cranes, welders, torches, and grinders safely.
• Coordinate work with CNC operators, foremen, fellow welders, fabricators, painters, and QC personnel.

Quality & Documentation

• Work to AISC and AWS Quality Management System requirements.
• Verify material heat numbers, piece marks, and orientation.
• Self-inspect and resolve issues before QC inspection; elevate drawing or material discrepancies to supervision.

Your Background

• Hands-on experience in structural steel welding.
• Strong skill in reading structural steel shop drawings and weld symbols.
• Proficient welding of structural steel and safe operation of overhead cranes.
• Knowledge of steel fabrication tolerances and quality standards.
• Reliable, safety-first, and quality-driven.

Proficiencies

• MIG Welder
• Flux-Cored Arc Welder (FCAW)

Shifts

Typical first shift: 5:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday

Typical second shift: 4:00pm-2:30am, Monday-Friday
