GL Accountant

A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a GL Accountant to join its finance team and provide hands-on support across general ledger accounting and financial reporting. This is a great opportunity for an accountant who wants to expand their experience in a collaborative, teaching-focused environment with the potential to grow into a long-term role.

The GL Accountant will be responsible for general ledger and financial reporting for assigned units, with significant involvement in month-end close, reconciliations, grant accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis. This position also serves as a key finance resource to operational teams, providing guidance and helping resolve day-to-day accounting questions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly journal entries, including intercompany activity
• Support accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and financial reports
• Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
• Review AP and cash receipt activity for proper general ledger coding
• Coordinate grant revenue recognition, accruals, billing, and reporting
• Analyze financial results and investigate budget variances
• Assist with annual budgeting and internal and external audit schedules
• Partner with operational teams to resolve accounting and reporting questions
• Support capital project tracking and other accounting projects as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with a concentration or significant coursework in Accounting
• 3-5+ years of accounting experience with strong general ledger experience
• Strong Excel skills
• Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Collaborative, team-oriented approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Self-starter who takes initiative and is eager to learn and grow

Compensation: Up to $37/hour
