This position works closely with the Accounting Manager and leadership team to support day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, grant compliance, and organizational financial management. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, experience with month-end close processes, and a passion for supporting a mission-driven healthcare organization that serves diverse communities. Position Summary- The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial reports, supporting grant tracking and compliance activities, assisting with audits, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Essential Job Duties-
- Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Manage the General Ledger and Chart of Accounts
- Perform monthly and year-end closing activities
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports
- Analyze financial and statistical data to support decision-making
- Maintain and reconcile fixed asset records
- Grants, Compliance & Audits
- Track grant expenditures and assist with grant reporting requirements
- Support federal, state, and other compliance reporting
- Assist with annual financial audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls
- Reporting & Data Management
- Develop, maintain, and update financial reports utilizing Excel
- Support organizational reporting initiatives and data analysis
- Assist with financial system enhancements and software conversions as needed
- Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with finance, operations, and leadership teams
- Cross-train and support various accounting functions
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives
- Perform additional accounting and finance duties as assigned
Requirements-
- Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 2-4 years of accounting experience
- Experience with accrual-based accounting
- Experience preparing month-end financial statements
- Advanced Excel skills, including reporting and data analysis
- Experience using accounting software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Preferred
- Accounting experience within a healthcare, nonprofit, or community-based organization
- CPA designation or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience with grant accounting and compliance reporting
- Experience with revenue cycle management
- Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP/accounting platforms
- Experience supporting financial audits
- Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidential financial information
- Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Strong critical thinking and analytical capabilities
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
