Position Summary
The Journeyman Electrician performs skilled electrical construction, installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance activities on transportation infrastructure projects.
This is a hands-on field position requiring strong electrical knowledge, quality workmanship, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively alongside foremen, apprentices, laborers, equipment operators, subcontractors, project management personnel, and agency representatives.
Because InLine serves a multi-state project area, employees should be comfortable with regional travel based on project location and scheduling requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Electrical Construction & Installation
- Install electrical conduit systems including PVC, HDPE, rigid galvanized steel, and other raceway systems.
- Install electrical and communications conductors, fiber-optic cable, grounding systems, surge protection, and related components.
- Install and terminate electrical panels, cabinets, junction boxes, disconnects, transformers, and associated equipment.
- Assist with installation of roadway lighting, traffic signal, ITS, and communications systems.
- Install pull boxes, junction boxes, foundations, poles, cabinets, and other electrical infrastructure.
- Diagnose electrical system failures and equipment problems.
- Perform testing, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, plans, wiring diagrams, schematics, and project specifications.
- Verify installations for proper operation and code compliance.
- Provide direction and technical guidance to apprentices, laborers, and less-experienced team members.
- Assist foremen with planning daily work activities and material requirements.
- Promote productivity while maintaining InLine's expectations for quality and safety.
- Help develop the next generation of electricians through hands-on instruction and mentorship.
- Perform all work in accordance with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, project specifications, and applicable electrical codes.
- Participate in daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and pre-task planning.
- Properly use personal protective equipment and fall-protection equipment.
- Recognize electrical, traffic, equipment, excavation, and construction hazards and take appropriate corrective action.
- Help maintain safe work zones for both InLine employees and the traveling public.
Qualifications
Required
- Journeyman-level electrical experience with demonstrated field competency
- Approximately 4+ years of electrical construction experience or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience
- Ability to read electrical drawings, plans, schematics, and specifications
- Knowledge of electrical installation methods, tools, equipment, and applicable codes
- Ability to work effectively as part of a construction team
- Valid driver's license required prior to employment
- Ability and willingness to travel regionally as project needs require
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of heavy electrical construction
- State or local Journeyman Electrician license/card
- Heavy highway, roadway lighting, traffic signal, or ITS experience
- IMSA Traffic Signal certification
- IMSA Roadway Lighting certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- ATSSA traffic-control certifications
- CDL Class A or B
- Experience operating bucket trucks, aerial lifts, trenching equipment, or other construction equipment
Physical & Work Requirements
This position may require employees to:
- Lift, carry, push, or pull construction materials and equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds or more
- Stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work from elevated positions
- Work around active roadways and construction equipment
- Work from bucket trucks, aerial lifts, ladders, and other elevated work platforms
- Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other changing environmental conditions
- Travel to project locations throughout InLine's regional operating area
- Work occasional nights, weekends, or extended hours based on project requirements
