Job Description Job Description

Adaptive & Social Skills Trainer $30/Hour Bachelor's Degree Required

$30 per hour Part-Time Mobile, Field-Based Central Los Angeles

Get Paid $30 an Hour to Play, Teach, Inspire, and Change Lives!

Do you love working with children? Are you energetic, playful, patient, and naturally good at connecting with kids?

What if your job involved playing games, exploring parks, encouraging creativity, building friendships, and helping children discover abilities they never knew they had?

At Potential on the Rise, that's what we do.

We're looking for enthusiastic, compassionate individuals who want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young adults with developmental disabilities.

This is not a traditional desk job. It isn't a traditional clinic job. And we're not a traditional ABA program.

We believe meaningful growth begins with genuine human connection.

Our Philosophy: Meet Them Where They Are

Every child is different. Every child has their own interests, personality, strengths, and challenges.

We don't expect children to enter our world before we can help them.

We enter theirs.

We discover what makes them smile, what captures their imagination, what excites them, and what helps them feel comfortable.

Then we build from there.

Play is the foundation of our training.

A game at the park becomes an opportunity to develop communication.

A fun activity becomes a lesson in independence.

A shared laugh becomes the beginning of trust.

We use games, movement, imagination, outdoor adventures, and real-life experiences to help children develop meaningful skills.

Our trainers follow individualized developmental goals with support and guidance from our clinical team.

We believe learning should be engaging, personal, and built around the individual.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for people with youthful energy, regardless of age, who genuinely enjoy interacting with children.

People who aren't afraid to be silly, get on the floor, play games, run around a park, or find creative ways to connect with a child.

You might be exactly who we're looking for if you:

  • Love children and naturally connect with them
  • Bring positive energy and enthusiasm into every interaction
  • Enjoy playing, moving, creating, and exploring
  • Have patience when things don't go as planned
  • Can adapt to a child's unique personality and abilities
  • Celebrate small victories
  • Are dependable, compassionate, and eager to learn
  • Believe every child deserves an opportunity to reach their potential

Here's what matters most to us: WILL.

The willingness to connect.

The willingness to learn.

The willingness to be patient.

The willingness to try something different when your first approach doesn't work.

The willingness to show up every day and make a difference.

We can teach you our methods. We can train you in our approach. We can help you become an exceptional trainer.

But you must bring the heart, energy, and WILL to do the work.

Important: Bachelor's Degree Required

This position requires a COMPLETED Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the following fields:

  • Education
  • Psychology
  • Counseling
  • Nursing
  • Social Work
  • Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Behavioral Medicine
  • Speech and Language
  • Rehabilitation
  • Marriage and Family Therapy

PLEASE READ: If your completed degree is not in one of the fields listed above, you do not qualify for this position and will not be offered employment in this role.

Degrees in progress do not qualify.

Experience Requirement

You must have at least one year of direct experience supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Qualifying experience may include professional employment, volunteering, or substantial direct caregiving experience, including supporting a family member.

We value meaningful hands-on experience, not just job titles.

What You'll Do

You'll work directly with children and young adults in their homes, parks, playgrounds, and community environments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with clients
  • Using play and engaging activities to teach developmental skills
  • Supporting communication, independence, and social development
  • Encouraging confidence and community participation
  • Helping clients work toward individualized goals
  • Documenting session activities and progress
  • Collaborating with supervisors and participating in ongoing training
  • Supporting small-group social skills activities when assigned

This is active, hands-on work.

You won't spend your day sitting behind a desk.

You'll be moving, engaging, encouraging, teaching, and making meaningful connections.

Work Location & Travel Expectations

This is a mobile, field-based position, not a position at one fixed location.

Our trainers travel to clients' private homes, parks, community settings, and designated POTR locations throughout Central Los Angeles.

Because sessions take place in real-world environments, your workday may include driving between clients, navigating Los Angeles traffic, and locating legal street parking when private or driveway parking is unavailable.

We make an effort to assign clients within a reasonable distance of your home area whenever possible, but flexibility and comfort with local travel are important parts of this role.

Reliable transportation, punctuality, and the ability to manage travel between appointments are essential.

Approved mileage between clients is reimbursed in accordance with company policy.

Our mobile approach is intentional. We believe children benefit from learning and practicing meaningful skills in the environments where they actually live, play, and interact with their communities.

Compensation & Benefits

$30.00 per hour

We offer competitive compensation for meaningful, play-based, community-focused work.

  • Part-time, averaging approximately 20-25 hours per week
  • Primarily afternoon and early evening sessions
  • Additional hours may be available based on client demand
  • Mileage reimbursement for approved travel between clients
  • Assignments generally planned near your home area when possible
  • Retirement plan
  • Employee referral program
  • Ongoing training and clinical supervision
  • Opportunities for professional and leadership growth

Hours vary based on scheduling and client needs.

Additional Requirements

  • Completed Bachelor's degree in an approved field
  • At least one year of qualifying developmental-disability support experience
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver's license
  • Current automobile insurance
  • Ability to travel between client locations throughout Central Los Angeles
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Comfortable working in private homes and community environments
  • Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid certification
  • Ability to complete required background checks and clearances
  • Ability to participate in active sessions, with reasonable accommodation where applicable

Spanish-speaking applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Why Potential on the Rise?

Because we believe the greatest breakthroughs don't always happen in a classroom or clinic.

Sometimes they happen on a playground.

Sometimes they happen during a game.

Sometimes they happen because one person had enough patience, creativity, and determination to keep trying until they found a way to connect.

We don't just teach skills. We help children discover what they're capable of.

And we believe the people who help create those moments deserve to feel proud of the work they do.

Imagine looking back years from now and knowing you helped a child communicate more confidently, make a friend, develop independence, or overcome something that once seemed impossible.

That's the kind of work we're offering.

$30 an hour. Meaningful work. Real human connection. The opportunity to change lives.

Ready to Join Us?

If you meet the education and experience requirements and have the energy, playfulness, patience, and WILL to help children grow, we'd love to meet you.

Apply through Indeed and include:

  1. The exact major of your completed Bachelor's degree.
  2. A brief description of your experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
  3. Your email address so we can send you our official employment application.
