About the opportunity
Our client, an international business, is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to take responsibility for accounting, financial reporting and compliance for its US operations. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you will work closely with local leadership and the wider finance team.
This opportunity could suit a Senior Accountant ready to take on broader responsibility. Practical experience preparing and filing multi-state US sales tax returns is essential
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and file sales tax returns across applicable US states using Avalara.
- Manage month-end and year-end close, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Monitor cash flow and working capital, coordinating banking and payments with relevant group teams.
- Prepare annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Analyse financial performance and margins, explaining variances to support business decisions.
- Coordinate other tax and statutory filings with relevant internal teams and external advisers.
- Support audits and lead inventory stocktake activities.
- Maintain financial reporting tools and improve accounting processes and internal controls.
- Act as the main finance contact between the US operation and overseas head office.
Required experience and qualifications
- Approximately three years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience preparing and filing multi-state US sales tax returns.
- A professional accounting qualification, such as CPA or equivalent.
- Experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines and communicate clearly with financial and non-financial colleagues.
Preferred experience
- Experience using Avalara.
- Manufacturing, distribution or supply chain experience.
- Familiarity with Power BI or other financial reporting systems.
Working expectations
Normal business hours, with additional time during month-end, year-end and audit periods. Occasional international travel may be required.
