ESL Tutor
The ESL Tutor supports the school's mission by preparing adult immigrant students to realize their dreams while strengthening our community and economy. This role provides excellent in-person and virtual instruction tailored to students' diverse educational backgrounds, learning styles, and English language proficiency levels. The ESL Tutor works with students individually and in small groups to support goals in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English while implementing targeted academic interventions and maintaining accurate student records and progress data.
CORE WORKSTREAMS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Academic Support and InterventionImplement Tier 2 interventions to support students in meeting academic Work individually and in small groups with students to strengthen English language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Establish individualized goals and develop tutoring plans that meet each student's unique needs. Utilize student-centered instructional strategies and differentiated support methods. Adapt instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, academic abilities, and educational backgrounds. Instruction and Learning DesignPrepare engaging lessons and instructional materials tailored to individual student needs. Create supplemental materials and learning activities using course syllabi and Schoology resources as guides. Select and utilize instructional resources that support language acquisition and academic achievement. Support instruction in both virtual and in-person learning environments. Assessment and Student Progress MonitoringAssess and document student progress throughout tutoring sessions. Maintain accurate records of goals, intervention strategies, attendance, and progress notes. Track baseline, mid-semester, and end-of-semester assessment data. Monitor student outcomes and adjust interventions as needed to support achievement. Student Information Systems and AdministrationMaintain updated student goals, actions, interventions, progress records, and schedules within the Student Information System (SIS). Ensure timely and accurate documentation of services provided and student outcomes. Assist teachers during testing periods, semester transitions, and when assigned students are absent. WHAT YOU'll BRING:Adult Education Expertise: Knowledge of adult education principles and best practices, with experience supporting adult learners preferred. ESL Instruction & Literacy Support: Understanding of English language acquisition and academic interventions, particularly in literacy and reading development. Student-Centered Instruction: Ability to design and implement individualized learning plans that support diverse learners and varied academic needs. Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Technology Proficiency: Experience using Zoom, Remind, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and other online learning tools. Organization & Documentation: Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage student data, documentation, schedules, and deadlines. Commitment to Equity & Inclusion: Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds. EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND OTHER EXPERIENCESAssociate Degree in Education or a related field required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in ESL and Adult Education preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of academic interventions, particularly literacy and reading support. Bilingual (Spanish or Amharic) required for some positions; bilingual proficiency in any language highly preferred for other positions. Fluency in spoken and written English required.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
We offer:A competitive annual starting salary range of $42,435.00 per year to $70,310.00 commensurate with experience. 46 total days of time off (a combination of paid holidays, vacation, sick, and personal time) per year. This number increases over time.
