Master Residential Carpenter

High-End Residential & Commercial Construction

Position Type: Full-Time Department: Field Operations / Construction Reports To: Superintendent / Project Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Master Residential Carpenter with a strong background in high-end custom homes, luxury residential construction, and custom millwork. This position is ideal for a highly skilled carpenter who takes pride in precision craftsmanship, understands the expectations of luxury construction, and can independently execute complex finish and rough carpentry work to the highest standards.

The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with custom homes, architectural millwork, cabinetry, trim packages, doors, built-ins, stair components, framing, and detailed finish work. Experience in performing or assisting with minor plumbing and electrical work is also highly valued.

This individual must be comfortable working from architectural plans and detailed specifications, coordinating with other trades, identifying field issues, and producing a finished product that meets exacting quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Custom Carpentry & Millwork

Perform high-end rough and finish carpentry for custom residential and commercial projects.

Install and fabricate custom millwork, architectural trim, cabinetry, built-ins, wall treatments, paneling, doors, and specialty woodwork.

Install complex trim packages including crown molding, baseboard, casing, wainscoting, coffered ceilings, beams, and other architectural details.

Perform precision layout, measuring, cutting, fitting, scribing, and installation.

Build and install custom features requiring a high degree of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Perform door, hardware, stair, railing, and specialty finish installations.

Make field modifications and solve unforeseen construction issues while maintaining design intent.

Read and interpret architectural drawings, elevations, shop drawings, specifications, and finish schedules.

High-End Residential Construction

Work within occupied and/or finished luxury environments while maintaining a clean, organized, and professional jobsite.

Protect finished surfaces, flooring, cabinetry, fixtures, and other completed work.

Maintain exceptionally high standards for fit, finish, alignment, and overall appearance.

Identify deficiencies or potential quality issues before they become costly rework.

Coordinate work with superintendents, project managers, architects, designers, subcontractors, and other trades.

Assist with punch-list completion and final detail work.

Minor Plumbing & Electrical

Perform basic plumbing repairs, fixture installations, and minor modifications within the scope of experience and applicable requirements.

Perform minor electrical tasks such as device replacement, fixture installation, low-voltage work, and basic troubleshooting when appropriately qualified.

Understand how carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other building systems interact within a finished structure.

Coordinate with licensed specialty trades when work exceeds the scope of the position.

Jobsite Responsibilities

Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional work environment.

Safely operate hand and power tools appropriate to the trade.

Inspect tools and equipment and maintain them in good working condition.

Follow project safety requirements, company policies, and OSHA standards.

Communicate effectively with the Superintendent and project team regarding progress, materials, conflicts, and potential issues.

Assist with material takeoffs, ordering, staging, and verification when requested.

Mentor and provide guidance to less-experienced carpenters and apprentices.

Qualifications

15-20+ years of professional carpentry experience, preferably with significant high-end residential or custom construction experience.

Proven experience with custom millwork and luxury residential finish carpentry.

Strong understanding of both rough and finish carpentry.

Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and construction documents.

Advanced knowledge of measuring, layout, cutting, fitting, scribing, and installation techniques.

Proficient with professional-grade hand and power tools.

Strong knowledge of various wood species, sheet goods, fasteners, adhesives, and finishing materials.

Experience with custom cabinetry, built-ins, doors, trim, paneling, stairs, and architectural details.

Working knowledge of basic plumbing and electrical systems.

Strong understanding of construction sequencing and coordination between trades.

Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Ability to maintain a clean, professional jobsite and work respectfully in high-end environments.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:

Luxury custom homes

High-end residential renovations

Architectural millwork

Custom cabinetry and built-ins

Historic or detailed restoration

Custom staircases and railings

Coffered and specialty ceilings

Wood wall paneling

Custom doors and entry systems

High-end commercial interiors

Boutique hospitality or retail construction

Finish carpentry supervision or crew leadership

Blueprint and architectural drawing interpretation

Punch-list and warranty work

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate is more than someone who can install trim or frame a wall. We are looking for a true craftsman who understands that in high-end construction, the quality is in the details.

You should be able to look at a set of plans, understand the finished product, anticipate potential issues, and execute the work with minimal direction. You take ownership of your work, care about precision, and understand that clean lines, tight joints, proper reveals, alignment, fit, and finish matter.

A strong candidate will also be comfortable stepping outside of a traditional carpentry role when needed to help solve minor construction issues and keep the project moving.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work for extended periods.

Ability to lift and carry construction materials and tools.

Ability to work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and elevated work areas.

Ability to safely operate carpentry tools and equipment.

Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor construction environments.

Compensation

Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience and craftsmanship.

Opportunities may be available for candidates with exceptional experience in luxury residential construction, custom millwork, and advanced finish carpentry.
