Kickstart your career in the heavy-duty transportation and equipment industry as an Apprentice Diesel Technician. Working side-by-side with experienced Journeyman Technicians, you will gain hands-on training servicing, diagnosing, and repairing diesel engines, heavy machinery, and commercial vehicle fleets. This role provides structured mentorship designed to build your foundational skills and advance your career into a full Diesel Mechanic.


Key Responsibilities


  • Shop Duties: Organize and clean the shop daily
  • Parts: Drive to retrieve parts from different locations
  • Machinery: Learn and operate machinery around the facility
  • Diesel Engine & System Support: Assist senior technicians with routine inspections, preventative maintenance (PM), and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air brakes, and drivetrains.
  • Diagnostics & Diagnostics Support: Learn to utilize modern electronic diagnostic software, fault-code readers, and precision measurement tools.
  • Safety & Shop Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free shop, strictly adhering to OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards.
  • Tool & Equipment Operation: Safely operate shop equipment (hoists, hydraulic jacks, torque wrenches) and ensure specialized tools are properly maintained.
  • Fleet Readiness & Documentation: Assist with recording completed maintenance logs, part orders, and inspection checklists accurately.

Qualifications


Required:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with diesel systems or heavy equipment (from high school shop classes, trade courses, or entry-level shop experience).
  • Strong willingness to take direction, learn complex mechanical systems, and work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50+ lbs, stand/kneel for extended periods, and perform heavy lifting safely.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (Commercial Driver's License - CDL learner's permit is a plus).

Preferred:

  • Current enrollment in or completion of a Diesel Technology or Medium/Heavy Duty Truck trade program.
  • Basic personal tool set (e.g., sockets, wrenches, hand tools suitable for diesel work).
