Wolf Haven International's Facilities Manager is responsible for managing and maintaining Wolf Haven's facilities, grounds, and equipment at its 82-acre headquarters in Tenino, Washington, and for supervising and partnering closely with the organization's Facilities Coordinator. Under the guidance of the Executive Director and the Sanctuary Director, the Facilities Manager identifies priority maintenance tasks and facility upgrades, coordinates and schedules such activities according to quarterly and annual timetables, consults with other staff, acts as the organization's primary contact with external contractors as necessary, and maintains detailed records and budgets for all related activities.

The Facilities Manager's daily contributions ensure everyone at Wolf Haven has a safe, clean, and comfortable environment, and their work is critical in supporting the organization's sanctuary, education, and conservation programs. Note: The Facilities Manager does NOT work directly with wolves. Occasionally, they may be asked to assist in specific sanctuary-related tasks, under the guidance of and with the support of the Sanctuary Director and the animal care team.

Essential Functions
General and regular tasks

• Supervise and lead the Facilities Coordinator, as well as any volunteers assisting with related tasks
• Ensure the Facilities team operates within a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment
• Conduct annual performance reviews for the Facilities Coordinator, co-develop their individualized professional development plans, and support their ongoing training and development
• Monitor the Facilities department's expenses, and co-develop its annual budget
• Oversee the maintenance of the organization's buildings, including basic repairs, painting, general cleaning, organizing shop tools and spaces, maintaining inventory of supplies, etc.
• Ensure vehicles and other equipment are clean, safe, and in good repair
• Maintain grounds (e.g., mowing, weeding and weed whacking) and prepare and clean the public area
• Conduct off-site errands to home improvement stores, dump, hazardous waste facility, etc.
• Coordinate and oversee outside contractor services, including for deliveries, fencing, tree services, mowing, porta-potty services, pest control, etc.
• Assist with physical sanctuary maintenance tasks as needed
• Support Wolf Haven's team to ensure that Global Federation of Sanctuary (GFAS) standards are maintained throughout the sanctuary
• Collaborate with the Safety Committee to ensure the safety of organization-wide activities, prepare and communicate emergency procedures, and facilitate the monthly Safety Committee meetings
• Take immediate action to address any safety concerns that could put a staff member, volunteer, guest, animal, or the organization at risk
• Ensure and model excellent customer service to guests, volunteers, and fellow staff, while promoting our mission and values as a sanctuary
• Practice and encourage the compassionate and humane treatment of all animals
• Any other related duties as directed by the supervising staff

Examples of Monthly and as-needed responsibilities

• Test water and prepare pipes, spigots, and wells for winter
• Build structures for enclosure improvements, e.g., shelter boxes and platforms
• Maintain facility fences and structures, freezer, tools, equipment, emergency supplies, and fire extinguishers
• Clean and maintain vehicles as needed
• Repair and replace wooden fences
• Clear gutters and maintain shelter pens (paint, remove moss from roofs, etc)
• Lead and mentor volunteers through Facilities activities
• Maintain unpaved roads throughout the property

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs. on a regular basis, and occasionally up to 130 lbs. (e.g., roadkill) with the help of a co-worker
• Ability to stand for long periods, frequently bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, climb, and balance.
• Physical stamina to work outdoors for long periods and under all weather conditions (weather-related safety will always be observed)
• Ability to perform duties in an environment with exposure to animal carcasses, organs, byproducts, bedding materials (e.g., straw), allergens, stinging insects, etc. for prolonged periods of time

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must meet physical requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in construction, carpentry, landscaping, and/or other trade required
• Experience working with power tools/equipment (e.g., hedge trimmer, weed whackers, chainsaw, driving mower). Further training will be provided
• Highly motivated and able to work flexible hours (including weekends and holidays when needed)
• Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of Wolf Haven, recognition that each animal is an individual whose quality-of-life matters (whether in a sanctuary or the wild), and a willingness to accommodate animal needs in a way that reflects our values as a sanctuary
• Able to effectively represent Wolf Haven's mission and values
• Team player willing to maintain a positive and collaborative disposition in a dynamic work environment
• Must be able to perform quality work within deadlines with and without direct supervision
• Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, file management, shared drives, and internet usage
• Maintain a WA State driver's license
• Maintain current CPR/AED and first aid certification. Training can be provided
